Phnom Penh: Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said that for 2026, Cambodia has negotiated to open the first land transport route to China via the Laos border.

On the occasion of presiding over the National Fishery Day on the Vaiko River in Svay Rieng Province on July 1, 2026, the Prime Minister said that in the past, Cambodia only transported goods to the Chinese market via waterways, but now Cambodia can transport agricultural products by land to China. Therefore, ensuring the transportation of Cambodian agricultural products, especially in the northern region, can be connected via this road without having to spend time transporting them to Phnom Penh as before.

The Prime Minister said, “In particular, negotiating to open more roads. This year, we negotiated to open the first road to China via Laos. By land, before, we only transported water to the Chinese market. Now, we can transport our agricultural products by land.”

The Prime Minister added that negotiations on opening export routes take a long time, but are sustainable and help farmers in the long run.

At the same time, the Prime Minister emphasized that negotiations on exporting products to foreign markets around the world do not take a short time, but require long negotiations. Because importing countries do not just import without negotiating and without examining all aspects.
