Phnom Penh: The Royal Government of Cambodia has reiterated that Cambodia absolutely does not recognize Thailand’s border or unilateral territorial claims.

According to a press release on June 27, the Royal Government of Cambodia officially protested Thailand’s continued violation of Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in the area of Ampil commune, Banteay Ampil district, Oddar Meanchey province. From early June to June 23, 2026, Thai armed forces carried out deforestation and barbed wire activities in the area of border post number 26, continuing to advance further into Cambodian territory.

The above activities violate Article 5 of the 2000 Memorandum of Understanding between the Royal Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Royal Government of the Kingdom of Thailand on the Measurement and Demarcation of the Land Border, signed on June 14, 2000, and Point 1 (Measures to Reduce Tension) of the Joint Declaration of the Third Special Meeting of the General Boundary Committee (GBC) dated December 27, 2025, which both parties agreed to submit to the Joint Boundary Committee (JBC) to resume the measurement and demarcation of the border as soon as possible, in accordance with the existing agreement between the two countries.

The Royal Government of Cambodia reiterates that “Cambodia absolutely does not recognize Thailand’s unilateral border or territorial claims, and the above-mentioned actions will not affect the legitimate rights or positions of the Kingdom of Cambodia with respect to its international border.”

The Royal Government of Cambodia demands that Thailand cease such actions and respect its commitment to de-escalate the situation, promote mutual trust, facilitate peaceful resolution, and restore peace, stability, and good-neighborly relations along the Cambodian-Thailand border.

Cambodia is committed to resolving all border disputes with Thailand, as well as with all neighboring countries, through peaceful means in accordance with international law and existing bilateral agreements, and adheres to its principled position that the border line shall not be changed by force.
