Lao Minister asks Cambodian Ministry of Interior to share experience in cracking down on technology-based fraud

Phnom Penh: Lieutenant General Vanthon Kangmany, Minister of Public Security of Laos, has requested Deputy Prime Minister Sar Sokha, Minister of Interior, to assign experts to help share experiences on research and suppression of fraud crimes using Cambodian technology with experts from the Lao Ministry of Public Security.

The request was made during a working meeting at the Ministry of Interior on June 29, 2026, on the occasion of the visit to attend the 2nd Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Ministerial Meeting hosted by the Ministry of Interior.

The Deputy Prime Minister expressed his agreement and full support for this request, as the Ministry of Interior of Cambodia also intends to establish a regular cooperation mechanism within the framework of law enforcement experts from Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam to exchange information and share experiences related to prevention. The Deputy Prime Minister also informed his Lao counterpart that so far More than 360,000 foreigners have been deported from Cambodia, including those who voluntarily returned to their home countries on their own, following crackdowns and arrests related to cybercrime and illegal entry and work in Cambodia.
