Phnom Penh: On the morning of June 22, 2026, at the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training, Ms. Sun Sarsochitha, Secretary of State and Chairwoman of the Gender Committee, a high-ranking representative of Mr. Heng Sour, Minister of Labor and Vocational Training, presided over the opening ceremony of the training course on “Strengthening the Capacity of Gender Focal Points” organized by the Gender Working Group of the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training, with the direct participation of leaders, representatives of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, civil servants, and gender focal points from many national and sub-national organizations, and also via the Zoom virtual system.
Ms. Sun Sarasochita said that the training course from June 22-24 aims to continue strengthening the knowledge and skills of gender focal points related to human rights, women’s rights, children’s rights, and the rights of people with disabilities, reducing all forms of discrimination, promoting social morality, the values of women and the Khmer family, and preventing gender-based violence. She highlighted that strengthening the capacity of gender focal points is essential to promote gender mainstreaming at all levels and ensure the effective implementation of relevant policies.
Meanwhile, the participants also gained additional knowledge on the 12 key recommendations of Samdech Maha Bavorathi Hun Sen Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and the six-point recommendations of Her Excellency Dr. Pech Chanmonny Hun Manet, as well as leadership skills, influential speaking, negotiation, mediation, prevention and control of early marriage and teenage pregnancy, gender and climate change in the field of vocational training, as well as relevant national laws and policies. For 2026, the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training has been actively implementing the 12-point recommendations of the King and the 6-point recommendations of the National Committee for Promoting Social Morality, Values, and Values of Cambodian Women and Families, requiring all subordinate units to participate in effective implementation.
To continue promoting gender work in the labor sector Social Security and Vocational Training, the Secretary of State provided key recommendations to the Gender Task Force and related entities, including continuing to implement the Pentagon Strategy and related national policies, strengthening gender mainstreaming mechanisms, promoting awareness and education about gender equality, eliminating discrimination against women, promoting women’s and girls’ leadership, and increasing participation in preventing all forms of violence against women and children.
At the same time, she expressed her appreciation for the efforts of the leaders and officials at all levels of the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training, as well as all ministries, institutions and relevant parties who have contributed to promoting women’s rights and gender equality, aiming to build a Cambodian society with ethics, equity, culture and sustainability, towards achieving the ambition of becoming a high-income country by 2050. On this occasion, Ms. Sun Sarosuchitha also thanked the Ministry of Women’s Affairs for continuing to collaborate closely with ministries, relevant institutions, development partners, the private sector and civil society in promoting the status and role of women in Cambodia in accordance with the policies of the Royal Government.
