Phnom Penh: Mr. Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, has recommended strengthening the teaching of science subjects from the primary school level, focusing on linking theory to practical applications in daily life.

Instructions by Deputy Prime Minister Hang Chuon Naron at a meeting to discuss “Science Teaching Methods” on April 4, 2026 to review and improve the quality of science education.

The Deputy Prime Minister recommended strengthening science teaching from the primary level, focusing on linking theory to practical applications in daily life. Teachers need to change from a rote learning approach to one that encourages students to be curious, question, and actively participate in class, and to close the gap between physics and mathematics, which require the use of complex formulas.

At the same time, he also emphasized analyzing the results of the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) to improve the quality of education in line with global standards and promote practical application rather than theory, aiming to close the gap between training and practice in schools. In particular, efforts must be made to widely disseminate all published documents to teachers across the country to ensure equity and effectiveness of teaching for all students.

The Deputy Prime Minister expressed his deep gratitude for the efforts of the technical team and all relevant parties who have devoted their energy to preparing and improving teaching methods for the better, and believed that the spirit of this meeting would be an important driving force in promoting the quality of science and technology (STEM) education in Cambodia to the next level, in line with the vision of the Royal Government.
