Phnom Penh: At the final meeting of the group debate competition on “The Effects of Alcohol” organized by the Royal Academy of Cambodia in collaboration with the Cambodian Health Movement on June 26, 2026, youth and stakeholders, including the winning candidates, called on the Royal Government to take strict measures on alcohol advertising to protect the health and future of the next generation of young people.

Among the more than 700 young people who participated in the competition, the three winning candidates expressed concern about advertising that “drowns” the voice of education. Alcohol not only damages the health, brain cells, and academic ability of young people, but also turns human resources from a “national pillar” into a serious “social burden.”

Some people mention the strategy of actively “distorting the mind” through social media (TikTok, Facebook, YouTube) and playing games with prizes on attractive cans, which makes children And young people mistakenly believe that drinking alcohol is civilized and fashionable. Some also assessed that the existing legal standards (Prakas No. 084) are not yet effective enough to protect young people from the influence of alcohol advertising.

The youth group suggested that in order to prevent this impact, the Royal Government should consider important points, including: Prohibiting alcohol advertising on social media. Prohibiting celebrities or influential people from promoting alcohol products. And limit advertising to “brands and logos” only.

Invited to preside over the final meeting of the group rhetoric competition on “The Effects of Alcohol” at the Royal Academy of Cambodia this morning, HE Men Samon, Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Information, said: The ministry will take these inputs and submit them to relevant leaders for consideration to find a good solution.

His Excellency Dr. Yang Pov, Secretary-General of the Royal Academy of Cambodia, emphasized: “A strong country must have strong citizens, and to develop its citizens, alcohol must be removed from the human brain. Therefore, I request a strong alcohol control law.”
