Interior Minister encourages Cuban Ambassador to continue strengthening bilateral cooperation, including in the security sector

Phnom Penh: The meeting at the Ministry of Interior Office between Deputy Prime Minister Sar Sokha, Minister of Interior, and Ms. Milena Caridad Zaldivar Piedra, Ambassador of Cuba to Cambodia, on June 26, 2026, provided an opportunity for both parties to discuss and exchange views on the background of bilateral relations, the results of past cooperation, and the path to strengthening cooperation in the security sector.

The Cuban Ambassador expressed her satisfaction with the results of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, both in general and specifically within the framework of cooperation with the Ministry of Interior of Cambodia. She also thanked the Ministry of Interior, through the General Department of Immigration, for providing assistance to Cuban citizens who are facing problems related to their passports.

The Ambassador also praised the General Department of Immigration for holding regular Hotline meetings with embassies in Cambodia, including the Cuban Embassy. 

She considered the meeting as an opportunity for all parties to receive information from each other, aiming to jointly solve challenges and create other conveniences related to immigration work, which she considered an example and highly encouraged.

Regarding the security sector, the Minister of Interior and the Ambassador agreed to promote further discussions and exchange of information. To establish a bilateral framework for cooperation between forces under the Ministries of Interior of the two countries, including cooperation in exchanging information and good practices, to strengthen the capabilities of the forces in the context of humanity facing complex problems, especially transnational crimes and cybercrime.
