Pursat: On the morning of June 19, 2026, Mr. Khoy Rida, Governor of Pursat Provincial Government, was invited to participate in a tree planting ceremony under the theme “Together Planting Trees for a Green Cambodia” at the entrance to the monument of Tep Oknha Khleang Mueang and Madam Khan Khieu, under the chairmanship of Dr. Eang Sophallet, Minister of Environment.

Before the tree planting ceremony began, the Minister and his accompanying delegation offered offerings to Tep Oknha Khleang Mueang and Madam Khan Khieu to wish happiness to the people of the province and the whole country, and to wish the Cambodian homeland peace, stability, and sustainable development. They also wished for the success of the tree planting campaign to ensure a beautiful green and healthy environment for future generations.

Mr. Khoy Rida, Governor of Pursat Province, highlighted the provincial administration’s efforts to strengthen environmental sanitation and public order, which have earned Pursat praise and become a model province in the garbage cleanup movement. The Governor added that the province has actively promoted the tree planting movement along major roads, public places, schools, and temples throughout the province, which will make a lasting difference in 2028. Meanwhile, the provincial governor has shown a strong commitment to preventing and suppressing all deforestation activities within his jurisdiction.

Dr. Eang Sophallet said that the Ministry of Environment’s green strategy focuses on cleanliness and sustainability. Planting trees is an increase in green cover, but protecting existing forests is an absolute priority. The Minister stressed that we must enforce the law without exception to protect our natural resources.

He thanked the Wildlife Alliance (WA) for its cooperation in providing both protection forces and financial resources. However, he reminded that as homeowners, we must work together to ensure that the forests remain intact. The ministry is actively implementing this by distributing saplings to citizens, specifically distributing at least 1 million palm seedlings per year.

The Minister unveiled a major plan by choosing Pursat province as the first province in the grass planting campaign after receiving support from Samdech Preah Sihanouk Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia. The project will help people have raw materials (for firewood or charcoal) instead of deforestation. If the project is successful, the ministry will expand the campaign to other provinces across the country.
The doctor emphasized that planting trees not only provides environmental benefits such as reducing heat and absorbing carbon, but also directly benefits the health, society and economy of the people. Having good forest cover is the foundation of a green, safe and prosperous Cambodia.
