President, SCO continue to strengthen and expand cooperation in tourism and security

Phnom Penh: Samdech Theipatei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, and Nurlan Yermekbayev, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), discussed further strengthening and expanding cooperation in the tourism and security sectors, as these sectors are of great importance and require close cooperation.

On the occasion of the ASEAN-Russia Anniversary Summit, the 35th anniversary of ASEAN-Russia relations in Kazan, the Russian Federation, on June 18, 2026, President Hun Sen held working discussions with Nurlan Yermekbayev, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

On this occasion, the SCO Secretary General expressed his satisfaction with the close bilateral cooperation between the SCO and Cambodia in many fields in the past. He also recalled the dispatch of the SCO election observer team to participate in the election observation in Cambodia in 2023.

Regarding tourism, His Excellency the Secretary-General informed the President that the SCO will organize a tourism event in Hainan Province, China in the near future, and the SCO will invite Cambodia to participate in this important event. By participating in this event, Cambodia will be able to showcase its rich potential and investment opportunities to high-level delegations, government representatives, the private sector and international organizations from various countries.

In the security sector, the President highlighted that this sector is very important This requires close cooperation. In this regard, the SCO has clearly understood these needs and the SCO also has specialized working groups on security, preventing transnational crime, human trafficking, and cybercrime. Therefore, exchanging information and sharing experiences will help strengthen cooperation in this security sector more effectively and more strongly.
